Hi Reader,

Are you in the path of the massive snowstorm we've been hearing so much about? We're just far enough north right now to miss it, but we had such a snow-filled few weeks that we're still digging out.

When the weather's like this, I'm always thankful for a full pantry, and honestly, every January is always "Pantry Month" around here.

When we lived full-time at our off grid homestead, it was the time of year when we relied on the hard work we did in the summer, or the smart shopping we did when bulk-buying and buying in season, to put meals on the table every day.

If you’re feeling the itch to be more self-sufficient but it's far too cold to get outside and garden, the kitchen is where the magic happens.

Learning to cook with basic, whole ingredients is the single biggest skill you can take with you when you move off-grid, or even if you're just on a quest to become more self-reliant.

Today, try one new "from scratch" recipe.

Can Your Kids Cook?

True self-reliance starts in the kitchen, and teaching your teens to cook from scratch is one of the most vital life skills you can pass on.

The Teens Cook Real Food course from Katie Kimball (you might know her from her excellent practical Life Skills summer camps) handles the instruction for you, covering 70+ essential techniques that build genuine independence.

Empower your kids aged 13+ to be capable contributors to your homestead kitchen while checking a major "teaching" task off your own to-do list.

Note: My girls have taken several of Katie's courses, including Knife Skills and two summers of Life Skills camp. Excellent resources.
