Maple season is almost here

Hi friend,

If you’ve been thinking about tapping trees this year, this is a good week to get your ducks (or buckets) in a row.

I realize tree tapping season varies across North America. When we lived in southern Ontario many years ago, March break fell in the prime maple syrup season. My sons and I enjoyed checking out the many maple syrup festivals in the area.

Back at home in the Northwest Territories, the maple trees (if any) are ornamental and small, far too delicate for tapping. But tapping birch trees is a popular activity in April or May.

And here, in northern Ontario, it looks like maple season will start within the next couple of weeks.
